Rebuilding Process

The rebuilding process we provide is thorough and will insure many more years of life to your piano. We start by completely taking the piano about down to its basic frame and performing a total rebuild. The pin block is the laminated wooden board that enables the tuning pin to withstand the forces the string applies to it and allows the piano to stay in tune. We replace the block and properly fit it to the large cast iron plate in the piano. All new holes are bored for the tuning pins at the proper angle with the proper tools. The soundboard is cleaned stripped of the original finish and any and all repairs are done. The bridges are cleaned and repaired as needed. The large cast iron plate is cleaned and refinished to the proper color. Any blemishes in the case and boards are addressed and repaired then a high quality durable finish consisting of up 15 coats of hand sanded sealer and lacquer is applied to give the desired final finish look.

The piano then starts its journey to becoming a playable instrument again as it is all fitted back together with the same precise tolerances that the factory used. All new strings bass and treble are installed with new tuning pins. Work then turns to the action, which is the playing mechanism in the piano, parts are either repaired or replaced depending on the condition of the original parts and your wishes as far as to the extent of the rebuild, this could involve all new wippons, hammers, shanks and flanges as well as all new felts under the keys. Then the extensive process of regulating all the new or repaired parts begins to insure proper playing. The piano is then tuned multiple times to hold pitch at A440. All case hardware is cleaned and buffed to look like new and the final assembly takes place. You now have a piano that is rebuilt, looks like new and will play another 50 or 60 years.
